The Antminer S21 is the first new series that Bitmain has introduced since it revealed the Antminer S19 XP at its World Digital Mining Summit in Dubai in November 2021.

What is the Antminer S21?

The Antminer S21 is the most recent Bitcoin mining ASIC from Bitmain, the leading producer of Bitcoin mining hardware in the world. The Antminer S21 will come in two different cooling models: air-cooled and hydro-cooled.

According to a Bitmain representative, the company expects to manufacture at least 50,000 units per month (50/50 air cooled and hydro cooled) for the next 8 months, but the company may produce as many as 100,000 per month if there is sufficient demand.

Bitmain expects to begin shipping the first round of Antminer S21 units in December, but it will ship the bulk of its new S21 inventory in Q1 and Q2 of 2024.

What is the Antminer S21's Hashrate?

The Antminer S21 has the highest hashrate of any Bitcoin mining ASIC on the market. The Antminer S21's hashrate for the air-cooled model is billed at 200 TH/s, while the Antminer S21 hydro-cooled model's hashrate is 330 TH/s.

For reference, the Antminer S19j XP currently has the highest hashrate for an air cooled model at 151 TH/s.

What is the Antminer S21’s Efficiency?

The Antminer S21 is the most efficient Bitcoin ASIC miner on the market, with an advertised efficiency of 17.5 J/TH for the air-cooled model and 16 J/TH for the S21 hydro-cooled model. It is the first Bitcoin ASIC miner to achieve a power efficiency under 20 J/TH.

Before this model, the most efficient air-cooled ASIC was the Antminer S19 XP at 21.5 J/TH.

What is the Antminer S21's Price?

At launch, the Antminer S21 has a promotional price of $14/TH for an order of 1.2 EH/s or more(which comes out to $2,800 per unit for air cooled models and $4,690 per unit for hydro models). It's important to note that this is promotional pricing for the launch of the Antminer S21 and that future orders will cost more than the promotional pricing. For example, the second phase of orders will cost $19.6/TH (per unit, $3,920 for air cooled and $6,566 for hydro cooled).

In the months and year to come as the Antminer S21 reaches the secondary market, we anticipate that the Antminer S21 will carry a substantial premium to older models like the Antminer S19j Pro and a slight premium compared to other next-generation rigs like the Antminer S19 XP.

Where Can I Buy an Antminer S21?

Bitmain is now accepting pre-orders for the Antminer S21, but these preorders are only available to miners who can buy in bulk.

Thankfully, secondary sellers like Luxor give miners the opportunity to purchase smaller orders of the Antminer S21. Luxor’s ASIC Trading Desk is now accepting preorders for the Antminer S21, with the first shipments of the new ASIC miner expected between January and June of 2024.
