Announcement: Introducing The AI Hardware Price Index
Hashrate Index is now tracking the asking price of 8-GPU NVIDIA HGX nodes.
The market for AI compute hardware is as opaque today as the Bitcoin mining market was when we launched the ASIC Price Index in 2020. There are no public price lists. OEMs/ODMs quote by request. Resellers post asks that move without announcement, and the secondary market runs through broker relationships that don't surface publicly. A buyer trying to establish what an 8-GPU H100 node is worth today has no reference point.
Hashrate Index now tracks it.
TLDR
- The AI Hardware Price Index tracks the median asking price of air-cooled 8-GPU NVIDIA HGX nodes across three series: B300 new, H100 new, and H100 refurbished.
- Current levels: B300 at $544,280 per node ($68,035 per GPU), H100 new at $324,438 ($40,555 per GPU), and H100 refurbished at $246,000 ($30,750 per GPU).
- A B300 node costs 1.68x an H100 node. Refurbished H100 nodes trade at 76% of new, a 24% discount.
- Dedicated B300 Node and H100 Node pages break out each specific system, with per-node/per-GPU and USD/BTC toggles.

Methodology
There is no public exchange for GPU nodes, but there are dozens of vendors with publicly available pricing information. We collect them.
The index tracks a deliberately narrow system: a complete, air-cooled, 8-GPU NVIDIA HGX node. Liquid-cooled variants, 4-GPU chassis, DGX systems, and bare HGX baseboards are all held out. We price each node as the vendor configured it, and we do not normalize to a reference build. The HGX baseboard carries most of the bill of materials, so CPU, memory, and storage choices move the total far less than the GPUs do.
Each listing contributes its last observed ask, held live until it reprices. The published value for any given day is the median across every listing live that day. No price is interpolated and no value is smoothed; every number on the chart is a real posted ask median, carried at the level it was last posted.
Two things this index is not. It is not transaction-derived. These are posted asks, what sellers are advertising, not closed deals. It is also not a spread-free number. We publish the median because the panel is currently too small for trimming to mean anything, and the range is wide enough that a single point estimate would bias the data.
What the Data Shows
Dispersion. 8-GPU B300 nodes are currently advertised between $399,999 and $682,000 — a 1.71x spread. H100 new spans 1.70x, refurbished 1.73x.
A ratio on the spread between generations. At $68,035 per GPU, Blackwell Ultra commands 1.68x Hopper's new-node price of $40,555 per GPU. The premium is narrower than the performance gap between the two platforms, which is expected while H100 supply remains available and B300 lead times stretch.
A ratio on the spread between new vs. refurbished. H100 refurbished nodes sit at 76% of new-node asks. For comparison, a bare new HGX H100 8-GPU baseboard is posted at $179,000 — about 73% of the refurbished node median, which can indicate how far complete-system prices can fall before it becomes cheaper to buy the board and build around it.
Individual Pages
Each system gets its own page.
The B300 Node page tracks the air-cooled 8U Blackwell Ultra node:

The H100 Node page carries new and refurbished as two series on one chart. The gap between them visualizes the market's live estimate of what years of depreciation and a warranty are worth on a Hopper node.

Both pages carry per-node/per-GPU and USD/BTC toggles. The per-GPU basis is the one to use when comparing across platforms; the BTC basis is the one to use if/when a data center is funding AI hardware from bitcoin mining revenue.
