Bitdeer launched the SEALMINER A3 series on September 16, 2025 — a four-model lineup built around its proprietary SEAL chip platform, spanning both air-cooled and hydro-cooled configurations. The series puts Bitdeer firmly into the current-generation efficiency tier, with the flagship Pro variants achieving 12.5 J/TH.

Background

The SEALMINER A3 is Bitdeer’s third-generation ASIC, following the A1 (used internally for Bitdeer’s own fleet) and the A2 (released in late 2024 as Bitdeer’s first commercial sale). Bitdeer’s position in the ASIC market is unusual: as a public mining company (NASDAQ: BTDR) that also manufactures hardware, the company has been one of the most aggressive challengers to Bitmain’s incumbent position over the past 18 months.

The A3 release follows a clear four-variant strategy: same underlying SEAL chip, different cooling formats and tuning targets. This is a deliberate departure from the typical hashrate-tier approach, where manufacturers stack variants within a single cooling format. With the A3, an operator can choose air or hydro, and Pro (higher efficiency) or standard (higher hashrate-per-dollar), without changing chip platforms. That has real operational benefits for fleets managing mixed deployments under a single firmware and parts inventory.

The Pro variants (Hydro and Air) share the same 12.5 J/TH efficiency target. The non-Pro variants step efficiency back to 13.5 J/TH (Hydro) and 14.0 J/TH (Air) in exchange for lower acquisition cost per unit. All four ship with ±5% tolerance on efficiency and ±10% on hashrate and power figures, per Bitdeer’s spec sheet.

Hashcost Breakeven Analysis

USD hashprice was trading at approximately $53 per PH/day in mid-September 2025 (Luxor Hashprice Index, $53.75 on Sept 15 and $50.00 on Sept 22). The table below shows daily profit per A3 variant across a range of electricity costs at that hashprice.

Daily profit in USD at ~$53/PH/day USD hashprice (Luxor Hashprice Index, mid-September 2025). Calculated from nameplate hashrate and power figures. All four variants remain profitable across this electricity cost range. Verify live at hashrateindex.com.

All four variants remain comfortably profitable across the $0.04–$0.09/kWh range that covers most North American and European industrial operators. The A3 Pro Hydro generates the highest absolute daily profit by a wide margin — roughly twice the A3 Hydro and nearly three times the A3 Pro Air — reflecting its 660 TH/s hashrate. For pure profit-per-unit, the Pro Hydro is the lineup’s clear leader.

Calculated breakeven electricity costs at $53/PH/day: A3 Pro Hydro and Pro Air both break even at approximately $0.177/kWh (identical because efficiency is identical); A3 Hydro at $0.164/kWh; A3 Air at $0.158/kWh.

Fleet Efficiency Context

The A3 Pro variants at 12.5 J/TH sit firmly in the top efficiency tier of currently-shipping ASICs, alongside the Avalon A16 XP (12.8 J/TH) and ahead of the Antminer S21 XP (13.5 J/TH). The non-Pro A3 Hydro at 13.5 J/TH matches the S21 XP’s efficiency, while the A3 Air at 14.0 J/TH sits below the current-gen flagships but well above the global fleet average.

Operating context from Luxor’s August 2025 Hashrate Lookback: fleets running sub-19 J/TH earned approximately $146 per MWh in mining revenues, versus $112 per MWh for the 19–25 J/TH tier and $77 per MWh for the 25–38 J/TH tier. All four A3 variants clear the sub-19 J/TH threshold, meaning operators deploying any of them sit in the highest revenue-per-watt tier.

Who Should Buy the SEALMINER A3?

  • Operators looking to diversify away from Bitmain concentration risk — the A3 Pro Hydro’s 12.5 J/TH efficiency is competitive with current-gen Bitmain hydro, but on independent silicon.
  • Industrial facilities with hydro infrastructure already in place — the A3 Pro Hydro at 660 TH/s offers one of the highest per-unit hashrates available on the market.
  • Air-cooled operators wanting top-tier efficiency — the A3 Pro Air at 12.5 J/TH is matched by very few air-cooled alternatives.
  • Buyers prioritizing acquisition cost over peak efficiency — the non-Pro A3 Air and A3 Hydro typically price below the Pro variants while still clearing the sub-19 J/TH revenue-per-watt threshold.
